Happy New Years!

I'll be ringing in this New Year at the Floridita bar here in Havana. It's supposedly famous for it's daiquiris and being a place where Ernest Hemingway use to hang out at. This year I actually have some resolutions to make. Normally I don't put much stock in New Years resolutions but I'll try something different this year. And in no particular order they are:
  • Try to spend at least 3 hours a week practicing my guitar.
  • Start lifting weights again regularly, starting at 30 minutes a day minimum.
  • Procrastinate less! (I have a feeling this will be a resolution forever!)

That's what I have for right now. I know there was another one but I can't remember so I'll come back later and add it in. Feel free to post what your New Years resolutions are in the comments; I'd like to hear 'em!

And on a side note, I found out today that my best friend, Alex, finally popped the question to his girlfriend of umpteen years, Katie. So I'd just like to say congratulations to those two and I'll do what I can to make the wedding this summer!

Merry Christmas!

I hope everyone out there is having a merry Christmas! I spent today eating some good BBQ and watching the Packer/Bears game over at our RSO's house. We, the Marines I mean, did a secret santa thing and bought each other gifts. Gunny drew my name, which I guess makes it not so secret but oh well, and he gave me a mask for when I go scuba diving. It's pretty sweet. Once my wetsuit and other stuff gets here I'll have to try it out. Speaking of scuba diving here are some pictures from the dive I did on the 18th. This was my final testing dive to get my certification and it went without a hitch.

Cpl Compton & Sgt Ramos

Two days ago I found out some great news. Come January 1st I will no longer be Corporal Compton but Sergeant Compton! That's definitely a morale booster! So from private to sergeant in 3 years, not too shabby. We're also getting two new Marines in 3 days in lieu of losing only one. Hells yeah! That extra man will get me a few more days off next month. And speaking of next month I'll be going to Florida again to see Andrea. We're also going to be getting a high speed internet connection at the house via satellite. Which I'm in the process of getting hooked up. That'll make life much more bearable here. Shit, January is turning out to be one hell of a month!
