Wilma Aftermath

It's been a week since Wilma hit us, sort of, and everything is just about back to normal. We didn't get hit by the storm itself, it passed north of Cuba by a good ways. However we took the full brunt of the storm surge from that bitch. Most of Havana was under a good 6 feet of water.

Lobby Entrance Interior Door

We spent the weekend at the Section incase the streets flooded out, and they did. It was just us Marines at the section, everyone else evacuated to Washington or stayed at home to take care of things. The water almost came over the steps into the lobby of the Section and it flooded out the basement. So I spent my birthday moving electronic equipment out of the basement and fighting electrical fires. My birthdays have worked out like this for the past 3 years. :D

Lucky for us, the Marine houses took minimal damage. Which is fortunate considering they're just a half mile or so from the sea. The bar house took no damage and the house I stay in, the kitchen house, had 4-6 inches. It just left a lot of mud inside we had to clean out. But like I said earlier everything has been cleaned up and as soon as the main street, the Malecón, opens everything will be back to normal.

Hurricane Wilma Here I Come!

It's been a long time since the last update! I promise I'll try not to go on hiatus that long again. I'll give y'all a quick rundown on what's been going on since I left for Texas. A lot of partying and drinking, that's what. It was a good time though and I'll put up some pictures from it in the next post.

Hurricane Wilima

I finally got to the US Interest Section in Havana, Cuba. I got here on the Oct. 19th so I haven't been here long. To top it off they got me here just in time for hurricane Wilma! Aren't I lucky? We'll be guarding the section during the storm so we won't be at home. It'll be relatively safe here, but I sure hope our house doesn't get blown away. If it floods out at least all my shit is on the second floor.

Also, tomorrow will be my 24th birthday. As all past birthdays have been spent since my 21st I will be spending the day working. Courtesy of hurricane Wilma. We will be spending Sunday night at the section while the hurricane blows over. Since I will be at work you can probably look forward to another update tomorrow. It all depends on if the hurricane knocks out our communications or not. Leave me some comments and let me know if there's anyone out there who still reads this damn thing.
